Hypericum perforatum - Boericke & Tafel, Nature's Way

From Hypericum perforatum, St John's wort. The homeopathic remedy is made from the whole fresh plant and is mainly used to treat nerve injuries, its principle action being on the central nervous system.

Constitutional indications
None in particular.

Mental symptoms alleviated
Drowsiness; depression.

Physical symptoms alleviated
Concussion; neuralgia; heavy, icy cold sensation in head; head which feels elongated, as if lifted up high into the air; eye injuries; discomfort after going to dentist; toothache, with pulling or tearing pains; coated tongue with a clean tip; severe shooting pains which travel in an upward direction; back pain which travels up or down spine; puncture wounds caused by nails, splinters or bites; crushed fingers or toes; thirst; a craving for wine or hot drinks; nausea; in women, late periods, accompanied by headaches; diarrhoea, with loose yellowish stools, made worse by overheating; painful, bleeding piles; nervy pains in rectum.

The above symptoms are often relieved by tilting the head back, but tend to get worse in cold, damp or foggy conditions and in warm stuffy rooms; being touched or exposing any part of the body is usually detrimental.

Antidoting remedies
Arsenicum, Chamomilla.

This Also known as St.-John's-wort, this shrubby perennial herb has oblong leaves that are covered with transparent oil glands that look like human flesh. The leaves resemble skin and even give the appearance of bleeding when injured. It is no coincidence that this herb is renowned for it s healing properties for the skin.

In Homoeopathy, Hypericum is often prescribed for injuries to the body, and for the soothing effect it has on injured nerves.

The whole plant is harvested for Homoeopathic use in summer and is pounded to a pulp, soaked in an alcohol solution, then diluted to the desired potencies.
